The State of xxxxxxxx sent me an out of the blue fine for $20,000, and a court order to cease and desist my addiction counseling practice after 35 years! They didn't even give me a choice, it was a done deal the day I received the notice! You folks were beyond patient with my near hysteria, calmly walked me though my Certification, and even helped with my letter to the State. The bizarre thing is I never heard from them again. "Here was my impossible problem: stay home and raise the kids, but also make enough to support my family and disabled husband. After receiving my certification, I began counseling in our spare bedroom; that's all we could afford. We used word of mouth, local classified ads, and referrals. My practice grew so fast that I could afford my own office, and then my own clinic building, in under a year and a half. I am now making so much that I can afford domestic help. This success isn't due to the certificate, or to me, or to a great referral network, since we had few friends. What is was is simple: your courses. "Your information materials do a great injustice to your curriculum. I know that you emphasize the great price (your nearest competitors are $20,000 and take three years, and many aren't even accredited), and speed of licensure, but that discounts the AWESOME value of the courses themselves. I realize that many students with deep life experience, including Pastors etc. need the certification. But in my case, starting from scratch, the material really did add ALL the value. Every mainstream Counselor should be FORCED to take these courses.
