Ease of Licensing
Traditional counseling for marriage, family, drug or alchocol abuse, finance, job guidance and other areas used to be an "inside" club, with Psychiatrists, Psychologists and the medical and educational establishments in bed with Federal, City, State and County Licensing Boards, with one objective: keeping new counselors out!
The requirements for traditional licensing differ from State to State, and some include Master's Degrees PLUS years of practice under other regulated agencies and practitioners, shattering the hopes, dreams and opportunities of many skilled and experienced counselors to start their own practices.
As the largest Online trade and home profession-oriented Accredited College in the U.S., Phoenix State University deplored this "good old boys club" and, over 20 years ago, decided to set things right. There is a little known "Counseling Loophole" in the counseling regs of all 50 States: Counselors associated with or trained under a ministry (called Pastoral Counselors) can be certified WITHOUT going through all the traditional roadblocks, and counselor adding secular certification are practically immune from Association and State intrusion. Pastoral Counseling is counseling based upon Faith, principles of choice and hope, and as a religious field, cannot be regulated by government. Additional secular credentials are outside the scope of either Therapy Association or government jurisdiction, and are an additional powerful protection for your practice.
The astonishing thing is that, when compared to traditional treatment with prescription drugs, PhD Psychology, etc., the recidivism and success rate of Pastoral Counselors is over TWO TIMES as successful as conventional psychotherapy in many cases. AA is a good example: the "higher power" and other steps of the program are far more successful than traditional approaches to sobriety, as proven by numerous research studies.
As an accredited institution, your PSU Pastoral Counselor Certificate, and add on secular credentialing are the first step in starting your own counseling practice in many States, and all you need in most. However, PSU found that some States were asking grads for more documentation, based on the pastoral component, so we added a number of important new secular credentialing programs to provide both additional protection AND significant new income and business.
The rest is SIMPLE. Order your course(s), pass your exam, receive your certificate(s), and open your counseling office! With your life experience, you can be earning significant new income doing what you love in months instead of years. Specialize for even more income, business and success in areas like career counseling, mortgages, outplacement, etc. via our secular adds programs, and begin to get large employer and agency referrals and contracts immediately!
